My Experience Playing Tennis

My name is Sean Tiplitsky and I am a very active junior tennis player. I compete in the USTA Southern California division. I started playing the game a little later than most competitive kids do as i started when I was almost 11 years old. At the time of me writing this article, I have been 15 years old for exactly 1 month. This means that in almost 5 years, I went from someone who did not know left from right in tennis to a very competitive junior tennis player who made his High School Varsity team in 9th grade.

I am not the most talented, or the most successful, but in my opinion I have been fairly successful so far. To reach this point, you have to be willing to put the work in, be open minded, and most importantly, love the game. I love tennis. Tennis is one of those games were even though you have an opponent, the real match is between you and yourself. I say this because, both you and your opponent are trying to achieve the same goal, but if you don’t have the mental battle won between you physically and you mentally, you will never win in tennis (no matter how much more skilled you are compared to your opponent).

The hard work and dedication that comes with tennis is one factor that makes me enjoy it so much. Like any sport, Tennis requires constant work, practice, and repetition. Personally, I love playing Doubles (2 on 2) more than Singles (you guessed it, 1 on 1) as it requires teamwork and communication but I enjoy both.

Another reason why I love Tennis is because it is always different and can’t possibly be predicted like some sports and games can be. A great example of a sport that is very repetitive and uneventful is Swimming. I say this because the purpose and goal is always the same and there is never anything new to accomplish (sorry Jonathan). In tennis there is always a new opponent and challenge to overcome.

I enjoy tennis for many reasons, (as noted above). I have played many sports throughout my young life (Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, Boxing, Tennis), and Tennis is by far my absolute favorite. it is a sport that keeps me in good shape and never leaves me without joy!
